biographical and/or anecdotal:
The Littler Family was one of the the old English Colony that secured a minor grant Nov. 12, 1735, for 1735 acres. This grant was to John Littler and Thomas Rees, and the survey describes the tract as extending by the Yorkshireman's Branch [VA], sometimes called Littler Run, and a similar grant embraced land where the Stephenson station is, and of Kenilworth prior to 1800. John Littler died in 1748 and had sons John, Samuel and Nathan.

Pete Carell writes:
1. would you please favor me with the source for Charles Littler as son of John Littler and Mary Ross?
My interest come from a handed down family tradition that Colin Carrell, age six, brought from Ireland by a party of Irish immigrants, was taken into the household of Charles Littler. Other details in the tradition have checked out. But I have not been able to verify the association of Charles and Colin, nor verify the existance of Charles. (There is a Charles W. Littler signatory to
many marriages in the Hopewell community, but his dates are to late to have been the correct person).
I did not have Fanny Littler as part of this family (John and Mary (Ross)). Your guess seems quite reasonable, except that Fanny was not listed as one of the heirs of Mary (Ross) Littler who died intestate 1771 and whose estate was settled in 1795. All other living children of that marriage did share, except Mary (Littler) Dodd (for whom I have no death date) and Charles. Have you any
reason for this discrepancy? Capon Springs is not all that far from Winchester that a part of 500+ Virginia Pounds would not been of interest.
3. I have Catherine (Littler) Jones as one of the heirs. You did not list her as one of the children. O'Dell commenting on this (Pioneers of Old Frederick County) "to Catherine Jones (probably her daughter)"

Contact through Sue Smoak brought this comment which I thought I might share.
Dear Pete,
My name is Carmen Bussard. I am a correspondent of Janet Wilson and she forwarded your queries to me. I am very sorry I cannot answer your questions about Charles Littler. I have never found any land records to help. I do have that he married a Katherine, and had possibly two sons: John and Charles W. I imagine this line is your major concern.
I can however, help with Fanny Littler. Her father was not John Littler. Fanny was born in Pennsylvania on July 30, 1738, and died in Hardy County, VA (now WVA), on November 10, 1805. She had two brothers: John, born
in Pennsylvania in 1747 and died in Kentucky in 1797-8, and Thomas Littler, born circa 1740 in Pennsylvania and died in 1818 in Hardy County.
Their parents were Ralph Littler and Sarah Williams, and grandparents were Ralphe Littler and
Mary Ashbrook. The latter, Ralphe, was a brother of Samuel Littler whose son, John, married Mary Ross Littler. You can see that
Fanny was a cousin of the Frederick County Littlers, but not directly related. If you are intensely interested in this line of Ralphe, let me know, and I can help more.
